Of course we've had peaberries before, but never from Uganda. In fact, never from anywhere other than Kenya. This one is a beauty. Yes, the usual standout acidity is there, but it's definitely different to the peaberries we're used to seeing.
It's juicy for sure, but also floral and with a hint of clove in the finish that lends a warmth to the overall impression.
Don't know what a peaberry is? - well, it's when the fruit from the coffee tree yields one seed instead of the usual two. It occurs naturally in somewhere between 5-10% of all cherries, but usually they just get mixed up with all the other seeds. In Kenya, they are often sorted separately and prized for the delicious, juicy, citrus-like acidity that they tend to have.
TLDR? - delicious, buy some here. 😊
