I remember washed coffee from Rwanda from when we first started roasting - well over a decade ago now (where did the time go!). It always had a distinctive earthy, rich intensity to it.
This lot from the Kirambo Washing Station reminds me of those coffees, and that’s why I snapped it up as soon as I tasted it.
It has the familiar stewed red fruit vibes, a very pleasing orange acidity and brown sugar sweetness too - but it’s the slight hint of nutmeg in the finish that brings all those memories back for me.
The slightly spicy finish makes it an excellent choice for those of you that enjoy a more intense brew. Of course it also means that the coffee cuts through milk really well, so it’s a great option for espresso based milk drinks too.
Check it out here.
