"The first time we've had a peaberry form anywhere other than Kenya!"

Here we have a really beautiful peaberry. This coffee is mostly Kenyan varietals, and peaberries are very much a Kenyan speciality, but this lot comes from Uganda.

When we drink this coffee, the first thing we notice is the unmistakable peaberry acidity. It's so distinct. The usual citrus-like character is rounder and juicier here though - and comes across more like raisins than lemons in this coffee. There is a really lovely, gentle lemongrass floral note in there too, and the whole thing is rounded off with a hint of clove in the finish.

So, yes - it's unmistakeable peaberry, but it's also bringing something a little different too. Enjoy in any brew method.

Taste and flavour perception are complex and difficult to articulate. We love sharing our tasting notes with you, but please don't rely too heavily on our reports. Your experience is what matters most and it may be different. We've written about that whole issue here.

Peaberries are a naturally occurring mutation in coffee production where only one bean develops inside of the coffee cherry instead of two. In the milling process, peaberries are an output via the screening and grading process found on either side of the 15 size screens, seen as smaller round beans in green form. We find people love the complex acidities of the peaberry product, finding them vibrant and citrus-forward.
