March 12, 2024
This time, we’ve been able to further tweak our methodology, leading to a more accurate measurement of our impact.
For the financial year ending March 31st 2023, we have calculated our carbon footprint at 62 tonnes CO2e/Kg. This figure is less than last year’s total, which is welcome news- but there are reasons.
Firstly, we’ve continued to experience modest growth as a business. This year, we again roasted more coffee than in the previous year. This resulted in more emissions.
However, we have massively reduced our ‘brew gear’ offering (reducing sales by more than 90%). This has been a conscious effort to focus our energy on what we are passionate about, sourcing and roasting amazing coffee!
Selling electrical and other consumer products is a carbon intensive process, and it’s this change in our business activity that has resulted in our reduced carbon footprint.
This year we are supporting a different project and we have already offset our emissions (see the entry on the register here, just search ‘Foundry’).
The project itself is one that we’re delighted to get behind. As usual, we’re committed to only supporting ‘Gold Standard’ projects, and this one has generated many additional benefits alongside the requirement we have for verified removal of greenhouse gases. These include providing bikes to help local kids get to school, single sex toilet facilities in the school, medical facilities and services, a clean water supply, and jobs for 88 people, 55 of them locals.
The project has resulted in a 22.5 MW wind farm being built in Rajasthan, India. I would encourage you to have a look. If you’re a customer of ours, this is something that I’m sure you’ll be really proud to be supporting.
You can read all about the project here. I’ve also added our certificate below.
