Luis Anibal Calderon - Colombia

We're excited to offer you this beautiful microlot from a prolific and innovative grower, Don Luis Anibal Calderon. In the cup, you can expect delicate floral notes that remind us of jasmine. Smooth yet complex chocolate flavours are balanced beautifully by a gentle, crisp red apple acidity. This is fabulous coffee, the care taken in producing this lot is really evident in the cup. Clean and classy all the way.

This coffee has been carefully hand-picked in order to harvest only the ripest cherries. The cherries then undergo a dry anaerobic fermentation period prior to pulping. The cherries are sun-dried to 10.5% moisture content.

Luis Anibal has been throwing coffee for over 20 years but only moved into speciality coffee in 2013. He was one of the first growers to cultivate Gesha when it was almost unheard of in Colombia, back in 2012. He now grows over 25 different varieties, including Wush Wush amongst many others.
This lot is Pink Bourbon, a varietal currently being researched to ascertain it's origin. It is thought to have mutated at 2,100 MASL in nearby San Adolfo, Huila.

this is great. early days, but was quick and easy to dial in, i’ve had a couple of espressos at 1:2 this morning and a taste of my partner’s flat white.

for me the red apple sweetness is spot on and is the dominant note, especially came through in milk. floral notes crept in on the finish tucked nicely into the chocolate and apple, not overpowering at all. low acidity for me, and nice thick mouthfeel.

it’s complex, but really perfectly balanced. definitely a keeper.
